What's new for 2023?

The new Ford Escape now has an appealing new front end that includes a wider grille along with a refined hood and front bumper. Several trims have been replaced in favor of a new lineup that includes Active, ST-Line and Platinum models. The Escape's plug-in hybrid now stands alone as its own trim and every model moves up to the Sync 4 infotainment system.

Trim levels

For 2023, the new Ford Escape gives buyers from Cherry Hill, NJ and Philadelphia, PA a total of five trims to choose from:

• Active
• ST-Line
• Platinum
• PHEV

The Base and Active trims are the most affordable options, coming in at starting prices in the $30K neighborhood. The ST-Line gives you access to the more powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that creates 250 horsepower. To achieve that, you simply add the Select Package which also gives you all-wheel drive. The ST-Line offers unique 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, a mesh grille and a rear spoiler.

Engines and performance

You'll have a nice menu of powertrains to choose from with the new Ford Escape, starting with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that gives you 181 horsepower. In addition, the Ford Escape now comes with your choice of two hybrid options, both of which operate with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors.

The base turbocharged three-cylinder gas engine can take you from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds when you're in the all-wheel drive Ford Escape SE and the plug-in hybrid gets the same score. If you upgrade to the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower you can get to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds.

Range and charging times

The plug-in hybrid version of the Ford Escape has an 11.2-kilowatt battery pack which can give you an EPA- estimated 37 miles of driving in electric-only mode. Fully-charging the battery in the plug-in hybrid takes about 3.3 hours if you have a 220-volt outlet installed in your garage.

Fuel economy

The 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder Ford Escape with front-wheel drive gives you 27 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on highways around Levittown and Lumberton NJ. If you go with all-wheel drive, you'll get 26 MPG on city streets and 31 MPG on the highway. The bigger turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with all-wheel drive provides you with 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

Infotainment technology

An 8.0-inch infotainment display comes standard but you can upgrade to a bigger 13.2-inch touch screen starting with the Active trim level. A head-up display, in-dash navigation and a Bang & Olufsen stereo system with 10 speakers are all available options.
